Press Release
“Wet Evening In April”
Friday 18th April 2008
The birds sang in the wet trees
And as I listened to them it was a hundred years from now
And I was dead and someone else was listening to them
But I was glad I had recorded for him
The melancholy -
Patrick Kavanagh.
On Friday the 18th April, the Patrick Kavanagh Centre will host a tribute concert to the late Gene Carroll. This concert was inaugurated in 2007 to mark the first anniversary of Gene’s death. The title chosen for this event “Wet Evening in April” is the title of the above Kavanagh poem which was one of Gene’s favourites.
Gene was a gifted storyteller and actor who entertained thousands of visitors to Inniskeen with his tour and one-man show, bringing to life the works of Patrick Kavanagh and promoting the Centre dedicated to the poet’s memory in Inniskeen.
This tribute concert in his honour will feature music, song, poetry, storytelling and craic in the company of Pat McGeeney, Michael Quinn, Margaret Heatley, Essence ( Karen Lynch and Paul Redmond), Tony O’Callaghan, Sinead Mitchell, Mary McGrane and Peter Carragher.
This promises to be a great night of entertainment - so come along and join in the craic.
The proceeds of this concert will be donated to the local Hospice.
Admission: €15/£10
