GOOD NEWS FROM INNISKEEN
Mary Mother of Mercy

A Thought for To-day

Sunday 28th   February 2010  -  Second Sunday of Lent

Seeing The Grandeur Of God Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. Luke 9:32   In a famous sonnet, Gerard Manley Hopkins wrote, “The world is charged with the grandeur of God.” William Wordsworth, another English poet, claimed, “Heaven lies about us in our infancy.” Both men recognized that there is on separation between the heavenly realm and earthly life; the problem is that our faulty perception makes us imagine that drudgery and suffering are all there is to this world. Awake to ailments and preccupations, we are too often asleep to matters of spirit. Bowed down by difficulties, burdened by busyness, we fail to see God’s presence reflected in every smile, in every leaf, in every blade of grass. Instead, we go out of our way to search for the extraordinary, imagining we can find it by climbing mountains, visiting monasteries, going on safari or watching travel documentaries on TV. The irony is that all we need do is open our eyes and hearts to what is already there. Awaken us to your presence, O God, that we may see your glory   Elizabeth-Anne Stewart.

Lord.
We struggle with our broken and divided hearts. Bless us with your peace as we strive to look and act in honesty about ourselves. Strengthen in us the glimpse of the glory you hold in store for us. Let that be the attractive force which stirs our hearts and not the attraction of sin. Give us true wisdom in our search for your justice. Amen.
