A THOUGHT FOR TODAY
How To Pray, How To Live.  In any bookstore or library, shelves are filled with books about prayer: ho to have a fulfilling spiritual life. We all have a lot of questions about this most important part of life. Good for us that Jesus has already answered them - briefly and simply. For these words - what we call the Lord’s Prayer - aren’t just phrases for us to repeat in our own prayer. They are just what Jesus says: a model for how to pray and notice who’s front and center: is it me and my problems? My hard decisions and regrets? Is this the time for trying to convince God to be reasonable and see things my way? It’s really no surprise. Jesus’ lesson in prayer begins with acknowledging and praising God and then praying that God’s will be done. That’s how to pray, but even more, how to live. Our Father, who art in Heaven…    Amy Welborn.

GIFT AID
At the moment we are preparing our claim to the Revenue for contributions paid to the Parish in 2008. If you received or will receive a letter from me during the week it means you paid more than €250 to the parish in that year. Be assured that I am the only one who has access to your names, addresses and money paid. The Finance Committee, the counters and the secretary work with numbers only. When we have completed the returns for 2008 we will move to 2007 and 2009. We can claim back tax on these contributions. Please remember it costs you nothing more but is of great value to the Parish.

DONATIONS OR WILLS
If you would like to make a single donation to the Parish development and renewal fund it would be very much appreciated. You will remember that I had a wish list two years ago - tarmac and reline the complete car-park this would cost €41,000, and re-carpet the chapel this comes in around €25,000, like the children’s Santa list I have more projects that I would like to see done for the benefit of you the parishioners, but I will talk more about that later. Our priority for this year is the car-park and carpeting of the church. Thanks for reading this long notice. Fr. Martin.

STUDENTS PRAYER FOR EXAMINATION
Lord, Pour out your spirit of wisdom on me: help me to remain calm, to attend carefully to the questions asked, to think clearly, to remember accurately, and to express myself well. I commend my studies to your powerful protection. I implore you to grant me a quick understanding, a safe judgement and a faithful memory. Grant that I may reflect the best of the work I have done and the best of the teaching I have received. Accept my best efforts in these examinations and in the great test of life on earth. May your love be upon me, O Lord, as I place all my trust in You. I ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

PARADOXES OF OUR TIMES”
We have more degrees, but less common sense, more knowledge, but less judgement. We have more experts, but more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up to late, read too little, watch t.v too much and pray too seldom. We’ve multiplied our possessions but reduced our values, we talk too much, love too little and lie too often.
