GOOD NEWS FROM INNISKEEN
Mary Mother of Mercy

A Thought for To-day

Sunday 7th February 2010  -  Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

A Lot of Fish to Leave BehindThey left everything and followed him. Luke 5:11
Peter had been following Jesus for a while before Jesus gave him a miraculous catch of fish, and Peter left everything to follow him. So in a way, it was a second conversion for Peter. And perhaps that makes the incident a model for you and me of the possibility of our coming to a deeper conversion to Jesus. If so, what’s the message? Hope Jesus will work a miracle before our eyes too – and in the meantime just go on living as we’ve been living? That sounds a little too easy. Is the message that we should, right now, give up everything to follow Jesus? But where does he want us to go? I suggest that Luke offers his account for reflection and prayer. Peter’s experience of Jesus spurs us to ask where we have experienced Jesus at work in our lives and in the lives of others. If I think quietly about that, do I hear Jesus saying something to me about where he wants me to follow him? And do I see a boatload of fish holding me back?     (Kevin Perrotta)

Just Walk Beside Me
“Don’t walk too far ahead, I may not follow…” Your steps are so much swifter than my own, if I lose sight of you within the distance, I doubt I can continue on alone. “Don’t walk too far behind, I may not lead…” I lack the strength of soul that you possess, and if you lost your way because of me, the both of us would face a wilderness. “But walk beside me…” so that I may know the sweet companionship your presence brings, so may we, hand-in-hand and heart-to-heart, help each other on to higher things.
