A THOUGHT FOR TO-DAY
The Focus of Love Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Luke 9:20
To know who Jesus is for particular individuals, we would need to examine not their words but their way of life. Words may impress, but they have little substance without action. I might say, “Jesus is the center of my life!” but if I am preoccupied with getting ahead at any cost, then one may wonder whether Jesus or a career path is really at the center. I might claim, “Jesus is my Savior!” but if I am obsessed with insurance policies, five-year plans, and equipping the home to withstand a nuclear attack, one might question what there is lift to save. Or again, I might profess allegiance to Jesus as Teacher. If I spend hours consulting astrological charts or seeking advice from psychics, then I hardly need a teacher, let alone Jesus. Conversely, when we see Christians going out of their way to reach out to those in need, when we observe them putting their own interests and security aside for the sake of love, then we have some idea as to who Jesus is for them. True disciples focus on serving others; they don’t have to resort to words. Let our actions point to you, O Lord or Love. Elizabeth-Anne Stewart.

GIFT AID
At the moment we are preparing our claim to the Revenue for contributions paid to the Parish in 2008. If you received or will receive a letter from me during the week it means you paid more than €250 to the parish in that year. Be assured that I am the only one who has access to your names, addresses and money paid. The Finance Committee, the counters and the secretary work with numbers only. When we have completed the returns for 2008 we will move to 2007 and 2009. We can claim back tax on these contributions. Please remember it costs you nothing more but is of great value to the Parish.

DONATIONS OR WILLS
If you would like to make a single donation to the Parish development and renewal fund it would be very much appreciated. You will remember that I had a wish list two years ago – tarmac and reline the complete car-park this would cost €41,000, and re-carpet the chapel this comes in around €25,000, like the children’s Santa list I have more projects that I would like to see done for the benefit of you the parishioners, but I will talk more about that later. Our priority for this year is the car-park and carpeting of the church. Thanks for reading this long notice. Fr. Martin.

EXAM PRAYER
O Great St Joseph of Cupertino who by your prayer did obtain from God. The grace that you would be asked at your examinations only the questions you knew well. Gain for me through your intercession with God that I, like you, may succeed in the examination that lie before me. In return I promise to make your name known and cause it to be invoked.

PARADOXES OF OUR TIMES”
We’ve learned to make a living but not a life. We’ve added years to life, not life to years. We write more, learn less, plan more but accomplish less, we’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We have higher income, but lower morals. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies but have less communication. We are long on quantity, but short on quality. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion. Tall men and short characters.
