A THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Eyes On The Prize Jesus said, “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the Kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62 As a child, I was always fascinated by the sight of farmers plowing their tiny patchwork fields. Barefoot, they guided their horses or donkeys on a straight course, the wooden plow turning over the rich red soil. The horses or donkeys usually wore blinkers to keep them from getting distracted from the task at hand. Watching intently, I wondered whether the farmers were wearing invisible blinkers; the furrows were so perfectly parallel that I couldn’t’t that I couldn’t’t come up with any other explanation. If the farmers had at any time looked over their shoulders, horses and plows would have been thrown off course and the furrows would have crisscrossed each other at random, creating chaos. When we allow ourselves to look backwards, perhaps to events or attachments from our past, we cease to be in the moment. Instead, we completely lose our focus, missing out on whatever experiences God is providing for us in the present. Keep us focused, O God, on all that you would have us accomplish.    Elizabeth-Anne Stewart.
