A THOUGHT FOR TO-DAY
To Live More Kindly Come and see the works of God… Psalm 66:5   What are the works of God? Do we recognize them? These works seem huge when written about in the Scriptures, but in our own lives they are often passed over and unrecognized. Once in a while these works startle us into attention. Such was the time when I learned of a woman whose car was damaged in a supermarket parking lot, crashed into by an undocumented immigrant. Upon learning he had no insurance, she decided not to press the issue, but someone else nearby called the police. The man was ticketed with a hefty fine. Instead of feeling self-righteous satisfaction, the woman went home and spoke with her husband. They decided to send what money they could to help pay the fine for the man. Such a small deed in the eyes of a large world, but how significant. When I heard of it, I felt I had experienced “The Works of God.” It inspired me to live more kindly. Forgiving God, enlarge the love in my heart. Sr. Joyce Rupp, O.S.M.

PRAYERS AND BLESSINGS
In the evening you often spent the night in prayer to the Father in silence and solitude. Grant that if I awake tonight and cannot sleep, I might join you in that quiet vigil and place all my cares in your hands. I pray now for the refreshment of a good night’s sleep, but I trust that you will be with me no matter what happens, tonight and always. Amen.       Gracious God, at the close of this day, I call to mind the blessings of the day. Though I may not have been aware of it, I know that you were with me, giving me breath and sustaining my every move. As I review the day and see the moments I fell short of the mark, I ask your mercy and grace to do better tomorrow. I offer you the day that has passed, and I pray for the rest and refreshment in your arms. Amen

PARADOXES OF OUR TIMES”
Search for knowledge, read more. Sit on your front porch and admire the view without paying attention to your needs. Spend more time with your family and friends, eat your favourite foods and visit the places you love. Life is a chain of moments of enjoyment, not about survival. Use your crystal glasses, don’t save your best perfume, use it every time you feel you want it. Remove from your vocabulary phrases like “one of these days” and “someday” write that letter you’ve thought about writing. Tell your family and friends how much you love them. Don’t delay anything that adds laughter and joy to your life. Every day, every hour, and every minute is special. You don’t know if it will be your last. If your too busy to read this reflection or share it with someone you love. You will share it “one of these days, believe me “one of these days” you won’t be here to share it.
